We Did It In Crisis. Now What?

May 14, 2020, 9:00am America/New_York

None of us dreamed that gathering at the parish would come to an abrupt halt. But it did. We couldn’t imagine how we would make new ways of being community overnight. But we did. As catechetical leaders, we had to meet the catechetical needs of children and families during this crisis. First, we grappled with, “How do we complete the year?” Now we are asking, “Will we have to do this again?” “Can we move beyond simple preparation and build something new?” Families are overwhelmed with home schooling academic subjects; we don’t want faith formation to be another burden, but we know it is vital for the overall health and well-being of the child and family. “How can we invite families to prioritize faith and not overwhelm them with one more task?”

In a time of crisis people pull together and we experience the silver lining of creativity and a willingness to try new things.  No one has the instruction manual. There is no perfect, out of the box, tried and true, one size fits all answer. There are innovative ideas, available resources, and interesting methods, that we may have been nervous to try before, but because we had to, some exciting things are emerging. We do not come with all the answers, instead we will share some ideas, insights, stories, and questions to ponder. Join us as we consider, Now What?
